# Branding (https://getreely.co/docs/directing/branding)

> Theme an app video from your product’s own colors, icon and font — automatically, or from a specific app bundle.

Reely can read your app’s own brand — palette, icon, and embedded font — and theme the video with it: the background canvas, the caption colors, and the shadow under the phone.

**Prompt:** `Brand the reel with our app’s colors and font.`

## Where the brand comes from

| Source | When to use it |
| --- | --- |
| The app being recorded | The default. Good enough for most videos. |
| Your shipping .app bundle | The truest match — it reads the exact palette and icon users install. |
| An asset catalog or icon file | When the built app is not around but the artwork is. |

**Prompt:** `Brand it from our shipping MyApp.app.`

## What branding touches

- **Background** — the canvas behind the phone is derived from the palette.
- **Captions** — bar and text colors, plus the app’s own font if it embeds one.
- **Contact shadow** — tinted to sit in the same light as the canvas.

> A dark app produces a **light** canvas by design — the phone has to separate from what is behind it. If you want dark-on-dark anyway, name the [background](https://getreely.co/docs/directing/background) directly; an explicit background always wins over the extracted one.

## Overriding pieces

Branding is a starting point, not a lock. Any piece can be replaced in the same sentence.

**Prompt:** `Brand it from our app, but use a graphite background and keep the captions white.`
